Your website is slow — but only for people far away from it

💡 CloudFront speeds up websites by caching copies of your content at 450+ locations worldwide, so users always load from a server nearby.

When someone in Tokyo visits a website hosted in Virginia, their request travels over 10,000 km — and that distance creates noticeable delay. Every click, every image, every page load has to make that round trip. It's not your internet speed that's the problem — it's physics.

AWS CloudFront solves this with a trick called a CDN (Content Delivery Network). Instead of serving everything from one data center, CloudFront copies your content to over 450 edge locations around the world. When someone visits your site, they get served from the nearest location — maybe a server just across town.

Think of it like a library system. Instead of one giant library downtown that everyone has to drive to, you put smaller branches in every neighborhood with copies of the most popular books. The books are the same, but getting one takes minutes instead of an hour.

The best part? CloudFront caches your content at these edge locations, so the same file doesn't need to be fetched from the origin server repeatedly. This means faster load times for users and lower costs for you, since your main server handles far fewer requests.
