Attia won't tell you which diet is best — and that's the whole point

💡 There's no single best diet. Focus on three levers: how much, what, and when you eat. Individual variation is huge — use data over ideology.

In a world of diet wars (keto vs. vegan vs. paleo vs. carnivore), Attia refuses to pick a side. Instead, he focuses on three levers that matter regardless of which diet framework you follow:

1. Caloric restriction (how much): Not starvation, but being thoughtful about energy balance. Overeating drives metabolic dysfunction regardless of food quality.

2. Dietary restriction (what): Limiting or eliminating specific harmful inputs. For most people, this means reducing processed foods, added sugars, and refined carbohydrates. Beyond that, individual responses vary enormously.

3. Time restriction (when): Fasting strategies that give your body time to process and repair. Attia is cautious about extreme fasting but acknowledges time-restricted eating has metabolic benefits for many people.

The key insight: nutrition is the hardest lever to pull because individual variation is enormous. What works for one person's metabolism may not work for another. Attia uses continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) to help patients see in real-time how specific foods affect their blood sugar. This personalized data matters more than any ideology.
