Pre-seed to Series C — what actually changes at each funding stage
💡 Each stage has a clear purpose: prove the problem, find fit, build the engine, scale it, then dominate.
Pre-seed ($50K-$500K): You have an idea and maybe a prototype. Money comes from friends, family, and angel investors. You're proving the problem exists.
Seed ($500K-$3M): You have early users and some traction. Institutional investors (seed funds) come in. You're building the product and finding product-market fit.
Series A ($5M-$20M): You've found PMF and need to scale. VCs want to see repeatable growth metrics. You're building the go-to-market engine.
Series B ($15M-$50M): You're scaling what works — hiring aggressively, expanding to new markets. The business model is proven, and you're accelerating.
Series C+ ($50M+): You're a market leader preparing for IPO or acquisition. Growth may slow, but revenue is substantial.
