Death is only standing naked in the wind

💡 Death, like life, is part of one continuous flow — not an ending to fear but a release and return, as the river becomes the sea.

The Prophet ends where it must — with On Death, and then Almustafa's own departure. Asked to speak of death, he answers that you cannot understand it without understanding life, for "life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one." Fear of dying is like a shepherd's trembling before a king who is about to honor him.

Gibran strips death of horror: "What is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?" Death is not an ending but a release and return.

Then the book closes on its own truth. As Almustafa boards the ship, he tells the weeping crowd, "A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me." The prophet's farewell is not goodbye but a promise of continuity — the same message the whole book has whispered: nothing that truly matters is ever lost.
