You have unlimited energy — unless you block it
💡 Your inner energy is unlimited; you only feel drained when you close and block its natural flow.
Singer shifts from the mind to something more felt: energy. He notes we all know the experience of having boundless energy when we're inspired or in love, and being utterly drained when we're not — yet nothing physical explains the difference. This inner energy, called Shakti in yoga and Chi in Chinese traditions, is always available.
So why do we feel depleted? Because we close around difficult experiences. When something hurts, our instinct is to contract — tighten the chest, shut down the heart — which blocks the natural flow. When we're open, energy rushes up and we feel alive; when we close, we cut ourselves off from our own life force.
The radical claim: staying open is a choice, moment to moment. You can decide not to close your heart, even when life gives you every reason to. Singer's discipline is to notice the instant you start to contract and consciously relax and stay open instead, letting the energy keep flowing rather than storing the blockage.
